Flight Log - 2019-05-26 - Richard Holmes's Mega Sprite

BT-80 upscale of the Estes Astron Sprite. Not tumble recovery, the vent hole is virtual, a la Wile E. Coyote.

Flight Date: 2019-05-26
Rocket Name: Mega Sprite
Flyer's Name: Richard Holmes
Motors: E22-4
Launch Site: Geneseo Airport (MARS site)

I burned a new E22 Smoky Sam in the Mega Sprite. That was a good flight too, up until chute deployment when the nose cone went one way and the body went another. My fault. This rocket has a removable Kevlar shock cord leader, which is supposed to loop around the motor mount behind the aft centering ring. But I didn’t think about that, and didn’t see it: it must have pulled up into the guide straw. What, you think after this many years I’ve learned to always tug on the shock cord to verify it’s sound and connected? Yeah, right. Anyway, the up part went well, better than the first flight on a D, and the delay which I’d drilled down to 4 seconds was good, at least in today’s wind. I did recover both pieces of the rocket, both undamaged.
