Flight Log - 2019-09-07 - Matthew Bond's Estes Mega Der Pink Max

Estes upscaled Red Max Pro Series II kit.  Added an eyebolt to the top centering ring and replaced the shock cord with 20 feet of braided Kevlar.  Added some balsa "dams" to the motor mount which allowed me to pot the TTW fin tabs in epoxy where they attached to the motor mount.  Currently using a kevlar heat shield and a 30 inch Spherachute for recovery.  Rocket was initially flown "nekkid", but final colors will be pink with a purple nosecone and "Der Pink Max" decals from Stickershock.

Had to work a bit to get this one into the air.  Rocket had heated up significantly in the sun, and I initially couldn’t get the nose cone off to prep the chute.  Finally got it adjusted and out to the pad.  After powering up the Jolly Logic chute release I had a hard time getting the nose cone back on, but was able to finally get it set.  After all of that the igniter did not light the motor.  There were people in line for the rails so I took the bird back down.  When I removed the nose cone I discovered that the chute release had released the chute.  I am assuming that I pressurized the body tube jamming the nose cone back on?  Got a second igniter and repacked everything.  Awesome boost, straight, fast and high.  Good deployment at apogee, no chute release at 500’.  Rocket landed flat on hard plowed dirt.  Upon recovery I discovered that the chute release had worked and the chute was simply bundled up inside the heat shield and never inflated.  No damage to the rocket, need to drill a vent hole in the bt.
