Day 2 results Today most everyone decided to finish up the altitude event, though a few brave souls opted for the riskier parachute duration. David Allen started off by eclipsing his stunning 1796 foot flight from yesterday with a 4802 foot flight today. He was challenged by Bob Cox (4643) and Claude (4572), but his points are looking pretty solid now. Bruce caught a monster thermal, riding a chute duration flight for over 18 minutes. Of course, the model drifted well outside the park (6920 feet), so he’s now down to only one more model to cover the remaining events. Since his first chute duration flight was returned safely, he’s virtually locked up first place for this event (you must have at least one return in an event to place). Bob Cox’s 400 second flight without even a whiff of a thermal is a distance second, though he’s got one more flight left for the event. Remi’s first chute duration caught a nifty thermal at 700 feet for about 2 minutes, then drifted back out of it for a 4-minute flight. His second flight didn’t fare quite as well at 106 seconds, though he’s clinging to third place so far for the event. Rich Laherty caught a bad break—his drag entry failed to deploy, resulting in a prang, DQ in the event, and he’s now down to his backup model for the rest of the meet. Peter Stanley gets the award for boldest flight of the meet so far, trying to hit the spot landing target from 700 foot altitude. He came amazingly close at 17.7 feet away, and will have to hang on by the skin of his teeth to hold 4th in that one.
