Essence's Model Rocketry Reviews (EMRR) is pleased to announce another contest
FIRST (just like our "Virtual Contests" and the EMRR Challenge). This idea has been brewing for several
months and now we are pleased to introduce to you:
DESIGN THIS SPACESHIP CONTEST
That's right, below you will find six (6) Spaceship pictures that we found on the
web. Each of these pictures induced that "I'd love to build that" feeling in me, so I figured we would see
what you could do.
The contest is very straight-forward:
1) Design a flyable rocket that is as closely as possible replicates one
of these six pictures
2) Write up a how-to article, with pics and templates, to allow
others to be able to build one
3) Submit pictures
4) Name the Spaceship
NOTE: Entries will not be posted until the 10/1/06 deadline to ensure
that an entrant's hardwork is not taken by a copy-cat. Fear not! Submit early! Submit more than one design!
Tick-tock... the official due date is 10/1/06, HOWEVER, a 1 month
extension my be requested. The request must be accompanied by a brief write-up and pictures of the built rocket. The 1
month extension is to allow for flights and write-up finalization.

Scoring will be determined using the following:
- 50% = (R)eplication Score * Weight
- Online Voting will determine total points
- The Percentage of total points gained will equal your score
- For Example:
- 100 Voters selecting top 3 equals 600 total points (300 for 1st, 200
for 2nds, and 100 for 3rd)
- If you gain 76 points, your score will be 76/600 = 12.7
- The highest score will be normalized to 100 and a multiplier will be
determined.
- So if the highest score is 90, then 100/90 = 1.11 which will then be
the multiplier and therefore the 12.7 * 1.11 = 14.1
- 15% = (F)light Score * Weight
- 1 Successful Flight =25 points
- 2 Successful Flights =50 points
- 3 Successful Flights =75 points
- 3 Successful Flights with at least 1 different motor sizes/configuration = 100
points
- A lot of trust here, so please take photos, movies, etc.
- 25% = (W)rite Up Score * Weight
- Online Voting will determine total points
- The Percentage of total points gained will equal your score
- For Example:
- 100 Voters selecting top 3 equals 600 total points (300 for 1st, 200
for 2nds, and 100 for 3rd)
- If you gain 76 points, your score will be 76/600 = 12.7
- The highest score will be normalized to 100 and a multiplier will be
determined.
- So if the highest score is 90, then 100/90 = 1.11 which will then be
the multiplier and therefore the 12.7 * 1.11 = 14.1
- 10% = Best in Group Percentage
- Online Voting will determine total place
- The Percentage of total Rockets in Group will equal your score
- For Example:
- 5 Rockets in Group and yours places 2nd = 80
- 5 Rockets in Group and yours places 1st = 100
- 1 Rocket in Group and yours is it = 100
Winners will be judged by EMRR Guests during a voting week after the August
1st deadline.
- Each entrant may enter (1) entry of each rocket photo (Maximum of 4 entries
allowed)
- Each entry must include at least (1) Static and (1) Flight photo, however, to
allow others to be able to build the rocket from your article, more pictures, templates, and drawings are
encouraged.
- Entry photos, templates, or drawings may be GIF, JPEG, of BMP - or - if you
don't have an electronic photo, e-mail us for a mailing address and we will scan them in for you.
- The winner will have first choice from the pool of prizes available for the
contest, the runner up getting second pick, etc.
- Each entrant may only win one prize based on the highest placement of the
entrant's one - four entries.
- If there are more than enough prizes, then prize selection will begin again with
the highest placing second entry per entrant
- Submissions required by 10/1/2006.
- Online Voting will take place after all submissions are posted.
