Brief:
Single stage tube fin 18mm rocket with parachute recovery.

Construction:
The kit includes:

  • 1 BT-55-17 body tube
  • BNC-55-CT Balsa Nose Cone
  • 3 BT-55-1A for tube fin
  • 3 BT-55-01 for tube fin
  • MM20-55 motor mount kit
  • LL5 1/8 inch launch lug
  • Screw eye (substituted a home depot 1/4 inch for the added nose cone weight with the screw eye that came with the kit)
  • SC-118 shock cord
  • Kevlar® cord
  • PK 128 Mylar parachute
  • Diamond Ring Decal kit
  • Prism trim sheets
  • Instruction sheet

You must read the instructions first or you will be upset. They tell you how to put the beautiful rocket together properly. There are just a few steps to assembly but all are critical. Make sure that the surface that the tube dry on is level. I used Gorilla Glue, which works really fast and it doesn't run hardly at all. Once the tubes and the motor mount dried it was a breeze. I changed the screw eye to a bigger size because It adds to the stability of the rocket and it doesn't drift as far. I ordered my kit online from Red River Rocketry's website and it took about four days to arrive. Great service as always.

Finishing:
The rocket is painted with 2 coats of Rustoleum white paint. I let it dry overnight. I attached decals, bought me some engines, and had a great time on Father's Day

Construction Rating: 5 out of 5

Flight:
Flew it on three B6-4s due to it being a little windy. But all flights were straight and true with nose down ejection.

Recovery:
I cut a relief hole in the chute so drift was kept to a minimum. It landed about 100ft from the pad on all 3 flights.

Summary:
I love tube fins and this one is very nice because it is not a (standard) tube fin rocket. The designer got out of the box and staggered the tube fins making it just a little unique and I like that.

Overall Rating: 5 out of 5

GUEST's OPINION:
09/09 - "Nice rocket. Easy enough build if you follow directions. Didn't look all that special as I was building it, but once I painted it yellow (as the insert card) it really "popped" and looks fantastic. Found the sparkle wraps wouldn't stick so I left those off. It has flown 4 times so far on B6-4s and it flies great." (S.L.F.)

06-21-2009 Jewel Butler Est SU B6-4 Apogee - NC Down 0-5 mph winds - second test flight no new developments straight and true
06-21-2009 Jewel Butler Est SU C6-5 Didn't See 0-5 mph winds - Wow man what a flight I can't wait to use a D15. This is a nice rocket you can use a streamer if your flying space is limited. The tube actually slow down the rocket as it comes down.
06-21-2009 Jewel Butler Est SU C6-5 Didn't Record 0-5 mph winds - Wow what a flight. can't wait to try a D15 engine. Use a Streamer it is a very light rocket
