This model features an interchangeable motor can that has four
configurations hence the "Mod" part of the name:
1. 13mm (Estes mini or "T" engines) times 2
2. 13mm times 3
3. 18mm times 1
4. 24mm times 1
The glider features all swept elliptical surfaces hence the
"liptical" part of the name.
The pod breaks in the middle and is recovered with a
1 1/2" X 6' .
Mod-U-Liptical Flight History Report:
02/24/98 Launched on 2 ea. A3-4T's. Good flight,
ejection/separation, a touch of stalling during . Added weight to nose
before next launch.
04/11/98Launched on 2 ea A10-3T's. Good flight, ejection/separation,
and glide.
04/11/98 Launched on 3 ea A10-3T's. One engine did not light, but
though it had uneven thrust, it still logged a good flight with a little bit of
an arc to it.
04/11/98 Launched on a C6-5. Quick, high boost with *very* long glide
time. (did not have a stopwatch though)
04/11/98 Launched on a D12-5. I thought the C flight was fast, but
boy howdy, this one really rocked! Very quick, high flight and the glider
seemed to hang in the air forever. It took me about 45 minutes to find the
model. Thank goodness for fluorescent orange paint!
04/18/98 Launched on 2 ea A10-3T's. Good boost, but the Kevlar®
shock
line got tangled up in the behind the wing for a Red Barron. No damage
to the model.
04/18/98 Launched on 3 ea A10-3T's. Good straight boost, flawless
ejection/separation, and good glide.
05/02/98 Launched on 2 ea A10-3T's. Good boost, perfect
ejection/separation, and good glide.
05/09/98 Launched on a C6-5. Good boost, but then strange things
happened. It first appeared that the shock line had become entangled in the
fuselage, but then the pieces untangled and the glider came in at an extreme
(about 45 degree) angle. It buried the nose end of the glider into the soft
dirt about 1/2". Upon inspection of the glider, there was a piece of
recovery (Estes type) clinging to one of the wings near the fuselage.
05/17/98 Launched on on 2 ea A10-3T's. Flawless flight from boost to
glide.
