Real Name - Scott Simka
Background - I hold a First Masters Degree from the Galactic Engineering
Institute with a Major in Advanced Pressure / Vacuum Management and a Minor in Fluid and Gaseous Dynamics, in addition
to 10+ years on the Alpha Moon Base.
I eagerly volunteered to work in the Engineering Section of the Mars Endurance
Base.
My assignment is to train new Micro-Fissure Technician Teams in the examination
of wall, door, window and floor seams and panels of the entire base for micro-pressure leaks and attempt or call in
repairs as necessary.
Micro-Fissure Technician Training Session:
Welcome New Micro-Fissure Technicians
You are an integral part of the day to day operations of this base. You ensure
the safety and security of all members of the MEB and you provide its members with the piece of mind that they won't
suffocate in the middle of their workday. You are taking part in a service that dates back to the dark ages, as far
back as the year 2000! We've come a long way and made many technological advances but nothing can replace a keen pair
of eyes, scrutinizing every crack and crevasse of our station. We hope you enjoy your term of service here at the MEB.
There are 3 basic types of Micro-Fissures here at MEB.
1 - High Energy Sub Atomic Particle Collisions which occur every second of every
day and are relatively harmless, but on occasion these particles strike the fracture planes in precisely the correct
angle, creating antimatter and cause rapid disintegration of the surrounding matter that is hit.
2 - Martian Crapperhead Termites are subterranean dwellers that burrow through
floor panels and produce bubbles that lead to fissures. The bubbles are actually their egg clusters, which upon
hatching, release thousands of metal munching critters into the floor panels. They are highly destructive, but we have
found that they are not able to eat through G12 sheets.
3 - Our fellow crewmembers that fly their rockets too low, generate huge negative
ion waves which disrupt the gravitational forces generated deep within the Martian crust. These contribute to stress
fractures within MEB's foundation and can radiate upwards.
Any of these Fissures can result in the "CATO" or Catastrophic Failure
of the Internal Pressure Retention System of MEB.
Fissure Identification
Utilizing the Alpha-Omega Radiation released from the Combustion of Blue, Red and
White tinted Cadmonium Percolate, we are able to cloud suspected leak areas and locate micro-leaks from outside the
base. The released radiation will disperse (into the Martian atmosphere) and will not contribute to the elevated
endorphin levels of our predecessors. * Note - Our ability to produce Alpha-Omega Radiation has been hampered due to a
plasma leak at the Cadmonium Percolate Manufacturing Facility on Rigel-7. They assure us that supply will return to
normal quickly.
For Sub-Floor Fissure identification resulting from Martian Crapperhead Termites,
Pyrogenic Gel, applied directly to the flooring material results in phosphorescence detected only under Ultra Violet
Light. Pyrogenic Gel is highly flammable and will burn white and hot, especially when in contact with static
electricity. Only Level 2 Certified Inspectors can handle and transport Pyrogenic Gel.
Fissure Repair Techniques
When Micro-Fissures are detected, the main repair method is followed, although
other methods do exist.
South Systems - Resinous Part A may be applied via squeegee to the site. When
Activator Part B is applied, the resulting "2-Part Foam" will expand and fill all fissures within a 10
centimeter radius of the existing foam. The resulting foam must be removed before full cure takes place or it will
never come off.
In the most extreme cases of fissure activity, it has been found that Shredded
Denim Fibers, when added to resinous foam, increase its adhesion and strength tenfold.
Large areas may require additional personnel and should be called in to dispatch,
and may require evacuation of the effected sector. Only 350 times in history, has an entire Endurance Base been
destroyed by an over abundance of Micro-Fissures so there is no cause for alarm.
We must discuss the symptoms of Martian Crapperhead Termite over exposure.
They include but are not limited to:
Excited states of irritability, extreme frustration, heart palpitations, wild
fits of uncontrolled anger resulting in damage of surrounding inanimate objects as well as a total sense of disgust and
inadequacy. After these periods the victim may be seen holding his head in his hands, breathing in deep sighs of
disgust and seem to want to give up. A sure sign of this over exposure is the presence of little pieces of white tape
on the fingertips.
The only cure for these symptoms, is a QUICK BURST of Nitrous Oxide!
If you notice your co-workers experiencing any of these symptoms, get them to
"Fresh Air" at once! Going outside will cause "Self Explosion" for which there is no cure. The only
fresh air is in the safety of the infirmary sweet air lock. Only technicians with Level 3 experience may operate the
Nitrous Oxide Chamber. It's use is a closely guarded secret. While these Level 3 technicians may appear to readily
discuss the chamber's operation, I assure you, they're holding back their secrets. They're real easy to spot because
they're huddled in small close knit groups and are reluctant to let in outsiders.
Please learn as much as you can from them and attend additional Nitrous Chamber
Education as the Level 3 Technicians are usually the first to drop out of MEB service!
This is the job of a lifetime and I hope know that if all of you grow to know
half as many cracks on this station as I do, you'll be in the ranks of the Elite Micro-Fissure Technicians from MEB
History! Thank you for accepting the invitation to ensure the completion of our mission on Mars!
Good Luck To You All!
