Background - I was personally selected via social security number by the MEB new recruit team to serve on the MEB due to my qualifications in three critical areas. 1. I am a medical professional. I help the MEB crew cope with the possible adverse effects of less gravity on Mars of that on Earth and I also treat any illnesses or injuries that arise. 2. I am an avid expert on the computer technology used at MEB (I designed a fairly large portion of it myself) and 3. I also perform maintenance work on the emergency return vehicles (ERV's).

Act of Volunteering - I knew I would be selected to volunteer on MEB is because of my high qualifications in three major areas of study and also because I was one of the main designers of the Emergency Return Vehicles (ERV's) at MEB in case of an emergency that would cause a complete evacuation of the compound. Also because I am a medical professional and an expert on the computer technology.

Assignment - My assignment or assignments at MEB is to well, as a medical professional, treat any injuries or illnesses that may arise. I have already treated about 10 cases of illnesses brought on due to the less gravity here. I've also had to treat the typical injuries, bumps, scrapes, etc but nothing serious and I hope it stays that way. I did have to deal with a new MarsOphobia case. That crew member was actually afraid to be here so we did the right thing and sent him home in an ERV with another crew member that was homesick but their replacements as well as another ERV are on the way.

I also keep a watchful eye on the computer technology here, some of it is very delicate and some of it can also make the difference between life and death. My job is to update it and repair and re-program some if it as necessary. This job sounds easy but not just anyone can do it. You need to really know the technology as pretty much everyone is counting on you and the hardware and software used. But on the other hand, don't be frightened by it. It is wonderful technology, having been designed by hundreds of engineers and designers that know every little bit about it including yours truly. It has yet to let us down and with me in charge of it, I don't think it ever will. I'm not too sure how my replacement will do though because I don't think that he is as qualified as I am so I may have to request an extention on my contract but the MEB officials are very strict on how long a crew member can stick around here.

I am also a maintenance worker of the Emergency Return Vehicles (ERV's at MEB. My job is to perform regular maintenance worker on them. I make sure that the computer technology on them is up to date and that there are absolutely no flaws in it whatsoever. In fact, the operation of these computers can ultimately decide if you either come home or get stranded. I want the crew to be able to come home in the event of an emergency so I check up on it and update it every chance I get. In fact, I am usually so busy with other tasks that I only get to check it on borrowed time but hey, someone has to do it and I'm the only one that is capable of doing it.

I also check them to make sure that they are fully fueled and loaded with any supplies that would be needed for a 35+ million mile trip back to Earth in the event of an extremely rare catastrophic incident. I also make sure that their structural integrity is strong and do any repair work on it and I also check to make sure that their life support systems are in excellent working order and that the atmosphere that they produce is clean and free of any harmful germs, mold etc.

Story - This is truely a job that I couldn't have dreamed of but is one that where I worked very hard for 20+ years and paid my dues to receive. Unfortunately, my contract is only valid for 2 years unless my extention is granted which as of now doesn't look like it will happen so after that, I will be replaced by someone new and I will have to return home but I will be returning home with high NASA and MEB honors and I will be receiving a paycheck with more zeros on it than anyone else could possibly imagine. Also, any request that I made before I left will be immedeately granted. Hey, at least I won't have to pay taxes anymore and by law, the ATFE must stop regulating HPR.
